The instigators continued their clamor, but Xiao Chen quickly understood—and so did most of the others—that such provocation would accomplish little. Who among those who had entered Dragon Island was truly reckless? Who would be foolish enough to let themselves be used as another's weapon?
Clearly, those who appeared to be incited were deliberately acting that way. They belonged to certain alliances, and the leaders of those alliances sought an excuse to make their move. They had instructed those they trusted to test Xiao Chen's strength, to create chaos, and to kill him. Once that was done, the true powerhouses would step forward and seize the dragon eggs.
Where there are people, there is strife. Dragon Island was a microcosm of the real world—intrigue, maneuvering, and brutal slaughter were inevitable. The human heart and human nature were too complex for anyone to truly map out.
Fearing another avalanche, the spellmasters and spiritists took to the air, flying high as they charged forward first.
But screams erupted immediately after: "Ah—"
Xiao Chen had leaped directly into the air, rising more than ten meters high. Divine flames danced around his body as his right leg swept out, cleaving a spellmaster in two at the waist. Blood rained down as the two halves of the corpse plummeted to the ground.
The event was too sudden. No one had expected Xiao Chen to move so fast—it was almost as if he could fly. In a single exchange, he had killed a Mortal-Shedding third-heaven spellmaster.
For a spellmaster who could fly to be killed in midair by a martial practitioner was a disgrace beyond words. But the dead man could no longer feel shame; he had lost his life forever.
"Everyone attack together! There's no need to fear him!" "One man can't stand against so many of us, no matter how strong he is!" ...
Xiao Chen's gaze was icy as he locked onto the few who had shouted. Though he knew that even without their cries, those who meant to attack would still come, he decided to kill a few first to make his resolve clear.
At that moment, more than a dozen spellmasters and spiritists had flown directly above Xiao Chen, and close to twenty practitioners who could not fly had climbed onto the snowy peak, surrounding him.
Xiao Chen's eyes shone with divine light. He was not afraid. Among these fighters, those who had reached the third heaven of Mortal-Shedding were already considered experts; only a handful had reached the fourth heaven. If he wanted to escape, he could break through the encirclement without trouble.
Thunder-like rumbles exploded from within Xiao Chen's body. A dazzling curtain of light appeared before him—the "Big Dipper" hung brightly in front of him, radiant and resplendent. He named this curtain of light "Sealing Divinity."
When the spellmasters and spiritists in the sky rained down beams of divine light, Xiao Chen moved like a shooting star, leaving afterimages across the snow as he evaded the turbulent waves of energy. At the same time, the Sealing Divinity light curtain blazed with incomparable brilliance, blocking the cursed energy that pressed close to his body. He then charged at the practitioners surrounding him on the ground.
Xiao Chen plunged into the crowd, heading straight for those who had fanned the flames. His right hand was like a blade, its divine light dazzling as it cut one of Yaluode's subordinates in two at the waist. No blood stained his palm.
In the next instant, he left an afterimage in place, dodging a flurry of attacks, and appeared before a member of the Treefolk Valley. His left hand brushed past—a head, its face frozen in terror, flew away, trailing a great spray of blood. The corpse only crashed to the ground after Xiao Chen had already moved on.
With a flash of divine light, Xiao Chen broke through the encirclement again, appearing before another member of the Nature Alliance. The Big Dipper Sealing Divinity light curtain blocked a blinding saber strike, and Xiao Chen shot past like lightning. The man's body split in two, and Xiao Chen passed between the halves.
Blood splattered. In the span of a few breaths, screams rang out repeatedly atop the snowy peak, the white snow already stained red.
The incantations of the spellmasters and the strange arts of the spiritists transformed into terrible beams of light, raging across the peak in chaotic torrents. Divine radiance made the summit dazzlingly bright.
The Sealing Divinity light curtain followed Xiao Chen closely, spinning around him constantly. It helped him withstand the overwhelming barrage of energy attacks, deflecting most of the spells and abilities from the spellmasters and spiritists above.
Xiao Chen's sheer ferocity stunned everyone. They had thought that combined strength could suppress him, but never expected that practitioners would be killed so quickly. The spellmasters and spiritists in the sky kept diving down; terrible incantations fell like meteor showers, and strange arts surged like a tide—blinding lightning, raging flames, razor wind blades, and ice lances rampaged through the air!
Yet none of this could stop Xiao Chen. Having reached the sixth heaven of Mortal-Shedding, he could now fully control the Big Dipper Sealing Divinity—no longer relying on luck as he had when fighting Liu Mu.
The Big Dipper blazed, illuminating the sky. Its dazzling radiance nearly engulfed Xiao Chen's entire body. As the heavy barrage of spells and strange arts were absorbed by the Sealing Divinity light curtain, the Big Dipper grew brighter and brighter. Finally, like a volcanic eruption, blazing light surged into the sky, engulfing four spellmasters and spiritists who had dived down. They were annihilated in an instant.
It was a startling sight. It seemed as though a roaring fire had ignited in the sky—but that was no flame; it was pure, blazing radiance. The Sealing Divinity light curtain hovered above Xiao Chen, shredding the few spellmasters and spiritists who had charged at him.
Everyone now understood Xiao Chen's strength and terror!
But there was no turning back. Matters had been pushed to this point. The spellmasters and spiritists in the sky, as well as the practitioners on the ground, all shouted as they charged at Xiao Chen.
"Kill—" "Kill!"
The battle raged fiercely atop the snowy peak. Killing cries shook the heavens as more than thirty elite practitioners surrounded Xiao Chen.
On the opposite snowy peak, the onlookers were deeply shaken. What realm had Xiao Chen reached? He was fighting a host of experts single-handedly—his combat prowess was astonishing.
The light curtain formed by seven energy-structured stars clung to Xiao Chen like sacred armor, its radiance causing the sun itself to dim. His hair disheveled, gripping a divine sword he had seized, Xiao Chen charged and slaughtered through the crowd.
Sword light shot into the heavens, raging in all directions!
Xiao Chen moved with sweeping, unstoppable power. None could stand against him. Wherever the divine sword passed, blood splattered. The light curtain around him had become a curtain of blood. Blood mist swirled atop the snowy peak, the pungent scent of gore drifting on the wind.
"Pfft—"
The divine sword cut like a rainbow, sending a ferocious head flying. A stream of blood burst across the mountaintop.
"Crack—"
The iron sword struck without mercy, cleaving a practitioner's body diagonally at the shoulder. Bare white bone and vivid red blood were jarringly stark, enough to chill the soul.
"Shii—"
The blood-stained divine sword hacked off half of a practitioner's skull. White, pasty matter oozed out along with bright red blood. The corpse toppled over—a scene of unspeakable carnage and cruelty.
Then, blazing sword light shot up into the sky. Dazzling beams pierced through three spellmasters and spiritists in an instant. Bloody holes, open front to back, sprayed great gouts of blood, staining the sky.
This was a battle of exceptional brutality!
The blood-soaked sword startles the sky, heaven and earth lose color. The Big Dipper rushes into the firmament, the wind and clouds shift. Xiao Chen fought on the lonely peak. After the Big Dipper light curtain faded, even his long hair was stained red with blood. The blood-dripping divine sword, the wildly dancing disheveled hair, the sharp eyes, the tall and straight silhouette—all of this was deeply engraved into the hearts of those who witnessed it. Even years later, this image would not fade.
