Xiao Chen cried out in alarm and raced toward the dense forest along the coast. The Eight-Armed Malignant Dragon was returning—he had to conceal himself quickly, or he would die without a burial place.
Thankfully, by the time the enormous dragon’s massive silhouette emerged from the sea, Xiao Chen had already plunged into the primeval woods.
Moments later, dragon roars shook the shore. Though he was several li away, the deafening cries pierced metal and shattered stone, rumbling like heavenly thunder and churning his blood and qi.
The Eight-Armed Malignant Dragon had gone mad. Discovering that one of its dragon eggs had been destroyed, it shrieked ceaselessly by the sea. The colossal roars stirred the once-calm ocean into towering waves. Then the dragon obliterated the vast coconut grove nearby.
Like a mountain of ancient ferocity, the beast’s enormous body blazed with silver flames. It charged into the dense forest of the island, its fifty-meter-long draconic frame erupting with murderous aura that reached the heavens. Nothing could stand in its path.
Trees fell in rows. The ground trembled violently. The mountain forest shook, sending leaves and branches flying. Forest birds cried in alarm and fled. Beasts scattered in terror. Xiao Chen had no choice but to flee as well, constantly shifting his position through the thick woods.
The Eight-Armed Malignant Dragon was too fearsome—invincible, unstoppable by any obstacle.
Whether by coincidence or because the ancient beast truly could summon clouds and rain, the sky quickly darkened. Endless black clouds shrouded the island, followed by lightning and thunder.
Massive bolts of lightning slashed wildly. A hurricane swept in from the sea, snapping countless towering trees and uprooting many more, hurling them into the dim, rain-soaked sky where they were shattered by the enormous thunderbolts.
It was an apocalyptic scene. Darkness enveloped the land. Howls rose without end. Trees broke and forests were destroyed. The ancient beast’s roars rivaled the thunderclaps above.
Throughout that night, the Eight-Armed Malignant Dragon’s colossal frame blazed with searing silver flames as it rampaged through the forest, destroying everything in its path.
The primeval forest dissolved into chaos. Countless ferocious beasts fled in panic. Besides the common lions, tigers, and elephants, there were many savage mutant species: winged divine lions, great one-horned serpents, three-eyed demon wolves as large as elephants, golden centipedes two to three meters long…
Even more ancient primeval beasts appeared—creatures recorded only in archaic texts. They ran like the wind, their howls like thunder, terrifying even lions and tigers into fleeing with shattered courage.
Xiao Chen was deeply shocked. What kind of island was this? So many primeval beasts… It was like an ancient wild world!
High above, thunder and lightning raged. The rain showed no sign of stopping. The wind still howled. Many running beasts were swept into the sky by the gale and vanished without a trace.
Xiao Chen narrowly escaped disaster several times. Not only did he have to avoid the ancient dragon, but also the stampede of primeval beasts. Once, when he fled into a sparse forest, he was nearly swept into the sky by the hurricane—a single step from being ground to dust.
After rampaging for most of the night, the Eight-Armed Malignant Dragon rushed deep into the island. A great commotion erupted in the mountain depths.
Besides the dragon’s furious roar, another beast cry rang out, piercing metal and shattering stone, fully matching the dragon’s. Their voices rose and fell in turn, rapidly drawing closer.
Soon, the sound of a battle between primeval beasts shook the mountains. Two different colossal roars were deafening, suppressing even the thunder above!
Xiao Chen was stunned. A beast capable of matching the ancient Eight-Armed Malignant Dragon? This island was truly mysterious and unfathomable!
“Roar…”
“Howl…”
The two ferocious beasts seemed evenly matched. Their cries echoed through the mountains as the fierce battle raged. The very mountain range seemed to tremble. Ten thousand beasts quaked in fear and wailed together.
It was a wild, rainy night. Thunder boomed. Gale howled. Two ancient primeval beasts fought fiercely. Ten thousand beasts roared and fled in chaos… Until dawn, when the rain ceased and the battle ended.
The Eight-Armed Malignant Dragon returned grievously wounded. The forest rustled loudly as leaves flew. Its body blazed with silver flames, but it bore terrible wounds. Large patches of scales had fallen off, leaving bloody, mangled flesh. Three of its eight giant claws were too injured to touch the ground. The seven-or-eight-meter-long silver horn, still stained with the enemy beast’s blood, had developed cracks.
One could imagine how brutal the battle had been. What origins did that enemy beast have, to make the Eight-Armed Malignant Dragon pay such a price? And which of the two had won?
The dragon’s return threw the forest into chaos again. Ten thousand beasts fled.
Xiao Chen witnessed it all, deeply feeling the terrifying might of the ancient primeval beasts.
The dragon dragged its wounded body into the distance. By then, the clouds over the island had gradually dispersed. The rain had stopped. Daylight broke—it was now early morning.
The night’s storm had destroyed vast stretches of forest. Many beasts had died in the chaos. The primeval woods lay in disarray.
Morning sunlight spilled through the forest, casting bright rays on leaves and flowers. The dew glistened like pearls rolling. Fresh air carried a refreshing breeze.
It was a vigorous morning. After the terrible storm of the previous night, a calm, peaceful dawn had finally arrived.
Xiao Chen walked on broken branches and fallen leaves, savoring the freshness after the rain. Suddenly, his pupils contracted. Twin beams of brilliant light burst from his eyes.
By the clear, sapphire-blue lake, on a towering ancient tree, a piece of white gauze hung from a branch, fluttering gently in the breeze. Amid this uninhabited forest, it was blindingly conspicuous.
