Sanctuary of Immortals - Chapter 058: Solo-Against-the-Alliance

Guluo’s gaze was dark and venomous as he stared at Xiao Chen. “Since you’ve agreed to a decisive battle, we will settle this with life and death!”

Further words were pointless. Xiao Chen nodded, then, as if remembering something, said, “I am facing ten of you alone—it is impossible for me to engage you head-on. If we were to wage a guerrilla war across the entire Dragon Island, the front would be too vast. Let us compromise: choose a closed valley for the battle. How does that sound?” But heaven knew whether he truly dared not to fight head-on.

In Guluo’s plan, he wanted a direct confrontation with Xiao Chen, but hearing Xiao Chen’s implication that he intended to flee and fight, Guluo felt something was off. Upon hearing the compromise, he immediately agreed—in a closed valley, the Revenge Alliance could easily corner him.

Xiao Chen turned to face the many onlookers of the Alliance and called out, “We will choose a closed valley for the decisive battle—neither too large nor too small…” He quickly conveyed his meaning.

Dragon Island was full of rolling mountain ranges, never lacking in valleys. Soon, a suitable place was found—the valley measured three or four li in both length and width. Within, the trees were verdant and full of life, not a bad place for a life-and-death battlefield.

The Alliance members deliberately chose a valley where the trees were not too dense, so that the thick foliage would not block their view of the exhilarating battle. Standing atop the valley, one could clearly see everything within. This seemed somewhat unfair to Xiao Chen, who had claimed he did not want a direct clash—after all, proper terrain cover was important for a lone fighter.

The great battle had already begun. Xiao Chen’s performance shocked everyone—he did not adopt guerrilla tactics at all, but charged straight at Guluo and his men from the very start.

At this moment, dazzling divine radiance shrouded Xiao Chen’s body like blazing flames. His entire being brimmed with soaring battle intent. Killing aura pervaded the forest, withering the leaves from the trees one by one until a cascade of green leaves drifted down through the air. An awe-inspiring, overwhelming presence! A scene that struck fear into all hearts!

The two sides clashed. From several meters away, Xiao Chen’s hands turned blade-like, dazzling and brilliant. He swept them forth with fierce power, and two peerless beams shot through the air like rainbows of light, slicing across the neck of a Revenge Alliance member. The head shot high into the air, flying diagonally over ten meters, while a fountain of blood spurted two or three meters high. Absolute shock! From the very first exchange, Xiao Chen had slain a master from the opposing camp, like an invincible demon of slaughter. His black hair danced wildly, stirred by an unseen wind.

Guluo, the spiritist Li Lingfeng, and the spellmaster Carter all launched ferocious attacks, sending waves of killing-intent-laden energy surging toward Xiao Chen. He left an afterimage in place and vanished instantly. Then, from another direction, he blasted out a dazzling, brilliant light. A wide swath of trees shattered in that instant, and the terrifying radiance drowned that entire area.

Mortal-Shedding Fifth Heaven! This was an overwhelming advantage, making Xiao Chen as fearsome as a war god! The two masters at the forefront of Guluo’s side coughed blood and retreated in defeat. One had barely taken five steps back when his entire body suddenly split apart—he simply shattered in an instant! The other, after retreating seven paces, had all his bones snap, and he collapsed limply to the ground, his eyes filled with terror even in death.

It all happened so fast. In the brief time since the battle began, Guluo’s side had lost three men. This was a terrifying result: one man, solo against an entire alliance, had overwhelmed them from the start! A clamor arose from atop the valley. Everyone was astounded. Xiao Chen was like a god of slaughter, possessing an overwhelming and terrifying power!

Inside the valley, Xiao Chen restrained his Fifth Heaven power. It had bloomed and vanished like an ephemeral flower, and he smoothly transitioned to Mortal-Shedding Fourth Heaven. Almost no one noticed the shift, believing Xiao Chen had been at Fourth Heaven all along.

“Everyone, gather together! Don’t separate!” Guluo shouted. At this moment, a chill crept into his heart. Xiao Chen was too terrifying. Choosing to fight in a valley—this was a scheme! It was not that Xiao Chen dared not face them head-on; rather, he feared that if he displayed his overwhelming power too early, Guluo and his men would flee in terror, making it hard to annihilate them all. The many Alliance members watching from above now understood why he had chosen to fight in a valley. Indeed, Xiao Chen now possessed Fifth Heaven power and had no fear of this Revenge Alliance. However, he was only revealing Fourth Heaven power, keeping a mystery to give his opponents a “surprise” when necessary.

Guluo stood with his sword held ready, its blade-light flickering uncertainly. With no scrolls available now, he had to rely on his true cultivation to fight. The spiritist Li Lingfeng floated in the air, azure light surging around his body as he pushed his innate spiritual power to its limit. The spellmaster Carter was also in midair, constantly chanting incantations. A savage, crazed spell energy attack was about to descend.

At that moment, Xiao Chen quickly vanished. He constantly shifted positions among the trees, beginning to eliminate those who were not among the three main masters. He decided to first take care of the several slightly weaker practitioners, then focus entirely on Carter and Li Lingfeng, who could both soar through the air.

Guluo, Carter, and Li Lingfeng began attacking with all their might, unwilling to be picked off one by one. Carter finished his incantation, and terrible bolts of lightning crashed down in pursuit of Xiao Chen. At the same time, a rain of energy blades descended like a meteor shower, blanketing the area. Xiao Chen shifted his form and changed position, leaving a trail of afterimages on the ground as he dodged the spell energy attacks and continued pursuing the other practitioners.

A spiritist possessed innate spiritual power, which through cultivation could develop into various extraordinary abilities. Now, Li Lingfeng was using his powerful ability, attempting to immobilize Xiao Chen. Xiao Chen indeed felt constrained. His body grew heavier by the moment, as if weighed down by a mountain, making it nearly impossible to move. His movements became unbearably sluggish. If not for the blazing divine flame dancing around his body, he might have been torn apart by Carter’s meteor-like rain of energy blades.

“Ah…!” Xiao Chen let out a mighty roar, his entire body trembling. The mysterious force binding him vanished, and the spiritist Li Lingfeng in the air suffered backlash, spitting out a mouthful of blood. He was indeed powerful, but the person he was attacking was a Mortal-Shedding Fifth Heaven practitioner—two heavens higher than himself.

Within a short quarter-hour, Xiao Chen had slain six practitioners of the Revenge Alliance. Apart from Guluo, Li Lingfeng, and Carter who were still confronting him, there was one more practitioner who had fled deep into the valley.

Now was the time to settle the grudges with Guluo.
