Sanctuary of Immortals - Chapter 009: Entering-the-Primeval-Forest

Seeing Xiao Chen's expression, Wang Zifeng and Liu Yue were greatly satisfied. Truly, the name of the Evil King shook the ages!

"The Evil King... he lives eternally in this world?" Xiao Chen's voice trembled with genuine agitation.

"Of course. The Patriarch has long since attained an indestructible body."

"And you all?"

"We... are still far from achieving deathlessness. The World of Immortality is not as you imagine. In truth, those who have achieved true eternal life are not many."

Liu Yue smiled charmingly. "Brother Xiao, I see you have just entered the World of Immortality and are unfamiliar with everything. Why not let us recommend you and let you join our lineage?"

Had Xiao Chen not known they intended to kill him, he would have been overjoyed. But for now, he could only pretend to be delighted.

"If I may ask, what is so special about this island?" Xiao Chen knew nothing of the World of Immortality. He had many questions, but could only begin with this savage island.

"Special? Heh, it's special in the extreme. So much so that a divine stele had to descend from the heavens to suppress it!" Wang Zifeng let out a cold laugh tinged with emotion, but offered no further explanation.

Liu Yue smiled seductively. "It's hard to explain in a few words. You'll come to understand slowly. This world is far more mysterious than you imagine. Even encountering humans with wings of supreme power is not unusual."

At that moment, a ripple of life force came from the treetops nearby. All three sensed it and stole a glance back, as if by accident.

There, half-hidden among the branches of a towering ancient tree, stood a small horse carved from finest jade. A faint radiance shimmered across its body, and it watched them with large, jet-black eyes—curious, cautious, and full of wonder.

Liu Yue gasped softly. "By the Evil King—it's a juvenile Unicorn!" Her surprise was evident; her emotions surged, causing her chest to rise and fall rapidly.

Wang Zifeng also sounded astonished. "I've long known this island was mysterious, but I never expected to find a Unicorn on its very fringe. Senior Sister, you should try. It is said that only a pure maiden can approach such a sacred beast."

Liu Yue rose, her seductive demeanor melting away. She appeared composed, pure, and refined. With graceful, lotus-like steps, she approached the ancient tree.

Whoosh.

The juvenile Unicorn startled like a frightened rabbit, vanishing in an instant. From afar, it streaked through the forest like a silver ribbon, gone without a trace.

"So it's called a Unicorn. I thought it was a Celestial Horse from the legends," Xiao Chen murmured to himself.

"Heh... it is a kind of Celestial Horse. Even as a foal, it moves like the wind. When it matures, it can soar through the skies. And when angered, it possesses devastating attack power." Wang Zifeng seemed genuinely regretful. "What a pity. A juvenile Unicorn like that would have been perfect to tame, but it was too alert."

Liu Yue gave a cold snort, her face dark with displeasure, and returned in a huff.

Wang Zifeng had finished his meal. He turned to Xiao Chen. "We'll take you away from here when the time comes. But not yet. First, we need to venture deeper into the island. Second, we must wait for our ship to arrive. Are you willing to accompany us?"

Xiao Chen had no choice but to agree, and he put on a pleased expression.

"Good. Then go gather more sea salt for the journey. The island is extremely dangerous. For many primeval beasts, we can only avoid them from afar. I don't know how many days it will take to truly penetrate the interior."

As Xiao Chen walked away, Liu Yue's expression turned cold. "Kill him now, before there are complications."

Wang Zifeng shook his head. "As you can see, there are trivial tasks still requiring him. Give it another two days. The island is treacherous. We might even use him as bait to lure out the savage beasts."

Both of them laughed coldly.

From within the dense forest, Xiao Chen watched their lip movements, then silently withdrew. If he hadn't understood lip-reading, he might have died without knowing why.

It was clear Wang Zifeng and Liu Yue were in a hurry, unwilling to waste a single moment. Once Xiao Chen had gathered enough sea salt, they set out.

They had been walking for half an hour. The ancient trees grew denser, their evergreen crowns blotting out the sky. In this boundless primeval forest, millennial trees were so thick that a dozen people could not encircle them. Thick vines stretched for hundreds of meters, and savage birds and beasts appeared constantly, their roars echoing without end.

They had already spotted dozens of rare exotic birds and beasts. To avoid unnecessary trouble, they did their best to steer clear.

As they walked through the primeval forest, they frequently came across white bones. Many were eight or nine meters long—clearly the skeletons of ancient savage beasts—hidden among the grass and trees, a grim and terrifying sight.

Along the path, Xiao Chen noticed traces left behind by the Eight-Armed Malignant Dragon: scattered silver scales and massive claw prints on the ground, each one longer than his own body. Trees had been uprooted and snapped wherever the beast had passed.

Xiao Chen was very curious about what ancient ferocious beast the Eight-Armed Malignant Dragon had fought on that night.

Wang Zifeng and Liu Yue, unaware of the battle that had taken place days ago between the Eight-Armed Malignant Dragon and another ancient beast, grew increasingly alarmed as they traveled.

Soon, Xiao Chen discovered the site of that battle. It had once been an open woodland, but now the entire area had been razed, leaving only scattered branches and debris.

The ravaged ground was stained with large patches of blood. Silver scales from the Eight-Armed Malignant Dragon lay everywhere, along with fragments of cyan scales from another beast.

Seeing this, Wang Zifeng and Liu Yue's expressions turned grim.

Following the direction the other beast had taken, they tracked it for a distance. The creature seemed to walk upright on two legs, its enormous claw prints alternating in a stride. They did not pursue further but turned in another direction. Encountering that evil beast would mean certain death.

After changing direction several times, the three found that many parts of the area bore signs of the beast's presence. This seemed to be its territory.

This was not a good sign. They had ventured into the domain of a terrifying ancient creature.
