Sanctuary of Immortals - Chapter 010: Killing-with-Resolute-Finality

As the sun set, the three discovered a hundred-meter-tall cliff face ahead, surrounded by dense forest. They decided to climb the precipice for the night, seeking refuge from the perils of the island.

After their evening meal, the last traces of sunlight vanished, and darkness fell swiftly. On an island teeming with primordial savage beasts, night brought endless dangers. Sheltering on the cliff was a wise choice. As darkness blanketed the land, countless ancient beasts stirred among the forests, their roars echoing without cease.

The night was unbearably stifling. Black clouds hung low over the island, but not a single drop of rain fell. By the dead of night, it was utterly pitch-black. The distant mountain forests had melted into the darkness, and nothing could be discerned.

In the latter half of the night, a thunderous roar shook the cliff itself. A fierce wind swept through the woods, carrying a bloody, malevolent aura. Wang Zifeng and Liu Yue immediately sealed their hearing; the roar, capable of drowning out thunder, caused the air around their ears to tremble violently. Had they not protected their eardrums in time, they would surely have been ruptured!

The earth-shaking roar of the beast was terrifying beyond measure.

Deep in the distant forest, a colossal figure, shrouded in a faint azure glow, roared toward the heavens. It was too far away to make out its true form, but one could vaguely see that it was as massive as a small mountain.

"Boom... boom... boom..."

The great beast advanced through the forest, bellowing as it moved. Even from the cliff, faint tremors could be felt. It was a sight that shook the soul.

This must be the same ancient fierce beast that had once battled the Eight-Armed Malignant Dragon.

Countless wild creatures fled in panic, throwing the forest into chaos.

At that moment, Xiao Chen struck!

The colossal roar filled heaven and earth. The air quaked violently, and the sound waves drowned out everything. Xiao Chen's left hand, like a blade, stabbed into the back of Liu Yue's chest. At the same time, his right hand snatched the long sword from her waist.

The sword swung, and blood erupted!

Wang Zifeng, who had been gazing at the distant beast with his back to Xiao Chen, let out a scream. His right arm flew from the cliff and plunged into the abyss.

Killing with resolute finality!

All of this happened in an instant, without any hesitation.

Liu Yue had been struck fatally. Wang Zifeng, however, was far too perceptive. Though his five senses sensed nothing, his keen intuition warned him of approaching danger, and instinct allowed him to evade a lethal blow—but his right arm was lost forever.

Xiao Chen had been waiting for this opportunity! The terrible sound waves blanketed heaven and earth, robbing Wang Zifeng and Liu Yue of their senses for a brief moment. At the same time, the terrifying ancient beast had drawn their attention. Xiao Chen finally seized the chance to launch his sudden attack.

Liu Yue's scream was swallowed by the ear-splitting beast roar, but she did not die immediately. Staggering, she lunged toward Xiao Chen. At the same time, one-armed Wang Zifeng, covered in blood, let out a ghastly howl. His left hand snatched at his sword and attacked Xiao Chen.

Rage and regret filled them. They had never imagined that the man they had thought doomed would seize such a fleeting opportunity to strike them down!

In the darkness, Xiao Chen was utterly calm. The long sword in his hand blazed like a rainbow, erupting with dazzling radiance. Without a moment's hesitation, he swiftly decapitated the dying Liu Yue.

Amid the brilliant sword light, Liu Yue's severed head flew upward, her face filled with unwillingness and disbelief. Her beautiful features twisted with profound regret as the head fell over the cliff, while her headless body gushed blood.

Even if it were the most beautiful woman under heaven, Xiao Chen would not have shown the slightest mercy. An enemy was an enemy—no reason could shake his resolve!

Above, black clouds churned. Sudden bolts of lightning slashed down violently, illuminating the endless darkness with an eerie, unnatural light.

Xiao Chen and Wang Zifeng locked in a fierce battle atop the stone cliff. Their swords cut through the darkness like bolts of silk, seeming to merge with the falling lightning itself.

Wang Zifeng was an outstanding disciple of the Heretic King's lineage, his skills profound. But after losing an arm and with blood gushing, he found it harder and harder to hold on. Finally, he abandoned his sword and hurled it with all his might at Xiao Chen. The blade seemed to tear through the void itself.

Xiao Chen narrowly dodged the vicious blow. At the same time, Wang Zifeng threw something else—a scroll. A terrifying wave of energy surged out, and Xiao Chen's keen instincts warned him of immense danger closing in.

The scroll unfurled in the wind, spreading like a painting. In that moment, Xiao Chen truly felt the threat of death. He sensed the Grim Reaper closing in, as though a massive chain of death had already looped around his neck!

Without any hesitation, Xiao Chen leaped from the cliff in desperation. That was his only way to break free from the shroud of death.

The wind whistled past his ears. Above on the precipice, a flash of demonic red light erupted, then a brilliant radiance completely engulfed the peak. The one-armed Wang Zifeng also jumped without a second thought. The terrible light swallowed the cliff top, and the aura of death filled the high sky.

Below lay an endless forest of towering ancient trees, some dozens of meters tall. As Xiao Chen crashed into the canopy, his hands and feet worked in unison, repeatedly breaking his fall. Every vine became a lifeline.

He descended in this manner, and by the time he hit the ground, aside from a slight churning in his qi and minor internal injuries, he was largely unharmed. The moment he landed, Wang Zifeng also set down, barely and dangerously, covered in blood, hair disheveled, utterly wretched.

Xiao Chen snatched the fallen sword from the ground and charged forward. One must not show foolish mercy to an enemy!

Wang Zifeng came at him with bare hands, his single palm striking out. A divine light shot from his palm, like a rainbow beam meeting the sword. Xiao Chen felt as though his right arm had been struck by lightning. Terrifying force transmitted along the blade. The cold, glittering sword trembled violently, then, with a series of brittle sounds, began to shatter inch by inch.

The meter-long fine steel sword was reduced to nothing more than a hilt. Unable to retreat, Xiao Chen cast aside the broken handle and thrust both palms forward. A dazzling radiance illuminated the night sky. The sounds of wind and thunder rumbled through the forest, and brilliant light drowned the woodland.
